Introducing our Chair Selector Tool

At Channel Healthcare, we understand that choosing the right chair is a hugely personal decision. But we also understand that it can be an overwhelming decision too.

That’s why we developed our innovative Chair Selector Tool. Designed in collaboration with Occupational Therapists, our Chair Selector Tool eases the feeling of overwhelm by helping to narrow down our extensive range of products, matching you with the products that can best support you or your loved one.

What is a shower chair?

A shower chair is a waterproof seating solution designed to make showering safer, more comfortable and more independent for people who find it difficult to stand throughout a shower or who need support during bathing. For users, it can restore a meaningful degree of independence. For family carers, it makes assisted bathing safer and less physically demanding. For Occupational Therapists, it is a common prescription following a bathing assessment, addressing a core activity of daily living.

What is the difference between the Osprey and the Raz Attendant Tilt?

The Osprey is a highly customisable assisted bathing chair with a wide range of arm, seat and footrest configurations, ideal for users who need a bespoke, well-fitted solution for regular assisted bathing. The Raz Attendant Tilt is a more clinically advanced option with Tilt-in-Space functionality to 40°, making it better suited to users with complex postural or pressure care needs during bathing, including those with neurological or progressive conditions

What is Tilt-in-Space on a shower chair and why does it matter?

Tilt-in-Space on the Raz Attendant Tilt allows the entire seat and backrest to tilt up to 40° as one unit, redistributing pressure across the body without changing the hip-to-back angle. This is clinically important for users at risk of pressure injuries during bathing, those who cannot tolerate an upright seated position for extended periods, and those with complex postural needs, making it a key OT specification feature.

Are shower chairs suitable for use at home?

Yes. Both shower chairs in our range are equally suited to home use, including standard bathrooms, wet rooms and adapted shower environments. Our consultant can assess the home bathroom or wet room during the free home visit to confirm suitability and advise on the best configuration for the space.

How much weight can a shower chair support?

The Osprey has a safe working load of 17 stone (approximately 108kg). If you or your client requires a higher weight capacity, please contact our team and we can advise on the most appropriate solution for bariatric bathing needs.

Are the shower chairs adjustable?

Yes, both chairs are extensively adjustable and made to measure. The Osprey offers a choice of three arm styles, four seat styles, four footrest options and adjustable height, with a customisable headrest. The Raz Attendant Tilt offers adjustable seat depth via the IPAS seat system, tension-adjustable backrest, seat height adjustment, multiple seat widths and Tilt-in-Space to 40°.

Can a shower chair be used in a wet room?

Yes. Both chairs in our range are designed for use in wet environments, with stainless steel frames that resist corrosion and water damage. They are suitable for use in standard shower enclosures, walk-in showers and wet rooms. Our consultant can assess your specific bathroom environment during the free home visit.

Can shower chairs be funded through the NHS or local authority?

Some shower chairs may qualify for funding through a local authority occupational therapy assessment, NHS continuing healthcare or other provision, depending on the individual’s assessed needs. Our team can provide guidance on funding pathways, and we work alongside OTs who may be coordinating this process. Families can also ask their GP or community OT for a referral.

Do you offer a free home visit for shower chairs?

Yes. We offer free, no-obligation home visits across the UK. Our specialist will assess both the user’s needs and the bathroom or wet room environment at the same time ensuring the chair recommended is the right one for the space as well as the individual. Every consultant is DBS checked and adheres to our strict Channel Code of Conduct.
