Integral Care Chair

A made-to-measure pressure care solution, built to protect skin integrity across both home and care settings.

The Integral Care Chair is a purpose-built pressure care seating solution, designed to protect skin integrity and support clinical positioning across the full spectrum of care environments. Its unique construction promotes genuine skin immersion and envelopment, redistributing pressure to reduce the risk of pressure injury associated with prolonged sitting or restricted mobility. Built using genuine Dartex® fabric and a modular adjustable foam, the Integral Care Chair delivers measurable clinical outcomes without sacrificing comfort or practical usability. True lay-flat positioning through integrated tilt, recline and leg raise functionality, eliminates the need for a full transfer to bed for repositioning or rest. Made-to-measure to the users custom height, width and depth requirements, the Integral Care Chair is equally at home in an acute hospital ward, a hospice or a private care setting, the Integral Care Chair meets complex care needs without compromise.

  • Dartex® fabric with a modular adjustable foam matrix promotes genuine skin immersion and envelopment, redistributing interface pressure and reducing the risk of pressure injury across extended sitting periods.
  • Integrated tilt, recline and leg raise work in combination to achieve a genuinely flat lying position within the chair - enabling full clinical repositioning and rest without transferring the user out of their seat.
  • Smooth, gas-assisted mechanisms allow controlled, effortless positioning adjustments across a wide range of clinical and comfort-based requirements including pressure management, lower limb care and circulatory support.
  • Full recline and side transfer compatibility allow users to be safely transferred in and out of the chair laterally, reducing manual handling demands on care teams and supporting safe practice in all care settings.
  • High-quality castors with directional control allow the Integral Care Chair to be moved precisely through clinical environments and secured in position when needed, combining manoeuvrability with stability for both user and carer.
  • Custom seat height, width and depth ensure the chair fits the individual user precisely, maximising postural support, optimising pressure distribution from day one, and accommodating a wider range of body types than a standard off-the-shelf chair.

The Integral Care Chair combines a clinically approved Dartex® pressure surface with true lay-flat positioning, gas-assisted mechanisms, side transfer compatibility and made-to-measure sizing. Built to protect skin integrity and support safe, dignified care with the flexibility to fit seamlessly into acute, hospice and homecare environments.

Why choose a chair?

safety icon
The Integral Care Chair's pressure-relieving surface draws the user's body gently into the cushion rather than supporting weight on a flat plane. This distributes pressure across a much wider surface area, reducing peak loading on vulnerable areas where pressure injury risk is highest during prolonged sitting.
safety icon
Integrated tilt, recline and leg raise work together to achieve a genuinely flat lying position within the chair, supporting pressure management, sleep, rest and clinical procedures without requiring the user to be transferred to a bed. This is particularly relevant in hospice and residential care environments where regular repositioning is required as part of a pressure management plan.
safety icon
Custom seat height, width and depth ensure the chair fits the user's precise body dimensions, rather than requiring adjustment or compromise. Correct sizing is not simply a comfort consideration: a chair that is too wide, too deep or incorrectly adjusted in height will compromise postural support, alter weight distribution and potentially increase rather than reduce pressure risk.
safety icon
The chair's geometry and full recline capability support lateral transfers, enabling users to be safely moved into and out of the chair without additional equipment or workarounds. This is clinically significant for users who cannot self-transfer and for care teams managing safe manual handling across a full working day.
safety icon
Ergonomic grip handles, lockable directional castors and a Dartex® surface that is easy to clean and maintain make the Integral Care Chair as practical for the carers and clinical teams using it as it is supportive for the person sitting in it. An effective pressure care chair must work for the whole care environment, not just the user.

Product FAQ's

Do you deliver and set up the Intergral Care Chair?

Yes. Every Integral Care Chair is delivered as part of our white-glove service. Our trained delivery team will bring the chair into the room of your choice, assemble it fully and remove all packaging. We will then give you and any carers a complete demonstration of every feature so that everyone involved in the user's care feels confident and safe operating the chair from day one. We deliver and install across the whole of the UK.

How do I arrange a consultation for the Integral Care Chair?

The most straightforward route is to call us on 0800 193 2524 or request more information online. We will arrange a free home visit from one of our seating consultants, typically within 7 days of your initial call. Our consultants work alongside Occupational Therapists, community nursing teams and care coordinators, so if you have an OT already involved in the user's care, we are happy to coordinate a joint visit. Our online Chair Selector Tool also allows you to filter by condition, symptoms, height and weight to generate initial recommendations before booking a visit.

What environments can the Integral Care Chair be used in?

The Integral Care Chair is designed for use across Acute, Hospice and Homecare environments. In acute hospital settings, it provides a pressure care seating solution for patients at elevated risk during periods of reduced mobility. In hospice care, the lay-flat capability, comfortable pressure surface and clinical repositioning options support end-of-life care in a chair that preserves user dignity. In the home, it provides a clinically appropriate seating solution for users with complex pressure care needs who are being managed at home, working alongside community nursing, OT and care teams.

Why is the Integral Care Chair made-to-measure?

Correct sizing is not simply a matter of comfort, it has direct clinical implications for how well a pressure care chair performs. A seat that is too deep will push the user forward, reducing the contact area between the user and the pressure-relieving surface and placing more load on the ischial tuberosities. A seat that is too wide will allow the user to lean to one side, creating asymmetrical loading and compromising postural support. A seat at the wrong height will affect how weight is distributed through the feet and thighs. Made-to-measure sizing ensures the chair works as its pressure surface and foam matrix are designed to work with the user correctly positioned, the full clinical benefit of the chair is realised from day one. Seat height, width and depth are all confirmed during the home consultation.

What is side transfer compatibility and why is it important?

Side transfer compatibility means the Integral Care Chair has been designed to allow a user to be transferred laterally -moved into or out of the chair from the side rather than from the front or rear - without the chair's structure obstructing or complicating the transfer process. When combined with the full recline capability, this allows users who cannot stand or perform a sit-to-stand transfer to be safely moved using lateral transfer techniques, sliding boards or appropriate moving and handling equipment. This is clinically important because it expands the range of safe transfer methods available to a care team, reduces the physical demands of the transfer on carers, and means the chair can integrate into a broader care plan without requiring specialist workarounds.

What does ‘true lay-flat’ mean and why does it matter?

True lay-flat refers to the ability of the Integral Care Chair to recline from a seated position into a fully flat, lying position through the combined movement of the tilt mechanism, backrest recline and leg raise, rather than achieving a partial recline that still leaves the user in a partially upright posture. This matters for several reasons. In pressure management, regular full repositioning, including periods of lying flat, is an established part of preventing and treating pressure injury. For users who are unable to self-reposition, a chair that can achieve a true lay-flat position removes the need for a full transfer to a bed or profiling mattress, reducing both carer handling demands and the disruption to the user of being moved. It is particularly valuable in hospice and end-of-life care settings where user comfort and dignity are primary considerations.

What is Dartex® fabric and why is it used on the Integral Care Chair?

Dartex® is a specialist healthcare fabric used extensively in pressure care products, including mattresses and cushions, across NHS and care settings. It is designed to offer low shear and friction properties — reducing the mechanical forces on the skin during movement and repositioning that can cause or exacerbate pressure injury. Dartex® is also fluid-resistant and easy to clean, which is an important practical consideration for any chair used in clinical or personal care. Its use on the Integral Care Chair is a deliberate clinical decision, not a cosmetic one: it contributes directly to the chair's pressure-relieving performance alongside the underlying foam matrix.

What makes the Integral Care Chair a pressure care chair?

Pressure injury — sometimes called a pressure sore or bedsore — occurs when sustained pressure on the skin and underlying tissue restricts blood flow, leading to tissue damage. The risk is highest at bony prominences such as the ischial tuberosities, sacrum, coccyx and heels, particularly when a person sits for long periods without repositioning. The Integral Care Chair addresses this in two ways. First, its Dartex® fabric surface and modular foam matrix promote genuine skin immersion and envelopment — drawing the body into the cushion so that pressure is spread across a much wider surface area, rather than concentrated at individual points. Second, the chair's true lay-flat positioning and gas-assisted tilt and recline allow regular repositioning to take place within the chair, without the need for a full transfer to bed. Together, these features provide both passive and active pressure management as part of a broader care plan.

Who is the Integral Care Chair suitable for?

The Integral Care Chair is suitable for users who are at elevated risk of pressure injury due to limited mobility or extended periods of sitting, or who require clinical-grade positioning support as part of their care plan. It is particularly appropriate for users managing Acquired Brain Injury, Alzheimer's Disease, Dementia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, contractures, oedema, or established pressure sores requiring ongoing offloading. It is also used for users with movement difficulties, pressure and skin fragility, or a risk of falls, as well as those in higher weight categories where standard chairs may not provide adequate support or correctly distribute body weight. In all cases, the appropriate configuration is confirmed during an individual assessment.

What is the Integral Care Chair designed to do?

The Integral Care Chair is a specialist pressure care seating solution, designed to protect skin integrity and support safe clinical positioning for users who spend extended periods seated. Its primary function is the prevention and management of pressure injury: the Dartex® fabric surface and modular foam matrix work together to promote genuine skin immersion and envelopment, redistributing the interface pressure that builds up during prolonged sitting. Beyond pressure management, the chair provides true lay-flat positioning, clinical repositioning capability through gas-assisted tilt and leg recline, side transfer compatibility, and made-to-measure sizing, making it suitable for complex care needs across acute, hospice and homecare environments.
