Yes. The Tri-Chair Three is designed for use across a range of settings, including residential care homes, nursing homes, hospices and specialist care environments, as well as in the home. The lockable castors and push handle make it straightforward to move the chair safely within a care environment. The chair’s hoist compatibility, full-body postural management features and electric upgrade option make it particularly well suited to residential care settings where multiple carers may be involved in supporting the user throughout the day, and where clinical seating requirements may be reviewed or updated by an Occupational Therapist over time.
Yes. Made-to-measure sizing is standard on every Tri-Chair Three. Seat height, width, depth and back height are each configured to the individual user’s body measurements, and the split-wing headrest is independently adjusted at the point of delivery. This level of precision matters particularly for users with complex postural needs, where even small deviations in seat dimension can affect pelvic alignment, pressure distribution and the effectiveness of the chair’s other features. Measurements are taken by your Channel Healthcare seating consultant during the home consultation and sent directly to the factory as part of the build specification.
The Tri-Chair Three is particularly suited to users where postural control, pressure management and transfer support are all clinical priorities. It is used widely for neurological conditions including Multiple Sclerosis, Motor Neurone Disease, Parkinson’s Disease, Huntington’s Disease, Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, Acquired Brain Injury and Cerebral Palsy, where postural tone, head control and positioning ability may be significantly affected. It is also appropriate for musculoskeletal conditions such as Muscular Dystrophy, Scoliosis, Kyphosis, Lordosis and Contractures, as well as for users with Spina Bifida, Fibromyalgia, Cardiopulmonary Disease and those recovering from stroke. In all cases, the specific configuration of the chair, including accessories, headrest positioning and any electric upgrade is determined through an individual assessment rather than a condition-led prescription.
The Tilt-in-Space mechanism moves the entire seating unit - seat, backrest and footrest - as a single controlled tilt, pivoting the user backwards rather than reclining only the backrest. This has two primary clinical benefits. First, it redistributes body weight across a larger surface area, reducing peak pressure at the ischial tuberosities (the sit bones) and sacrum, which are the most common sites for pressure injury in seated users. Second, it stabilises the pelvis by maintaining the same angle between the seat and backrest throughout the movement, which helps preserve postural alignment and prevents the user from sliding forward in the seat. For users who cannot independently shift their weight and who are at risk of pressure injury, regular use of the Tilt-in-Space mechanism, either manually or via the electric upgrade, forms an important part of pressure care management.
The electric upgrade on the Tri-Chair Three enables motorised adjustment of the chair’s positioning controls, including the Tilt-in-Space mechanism, back recline and legrest for users who are unable to manage manual adjustment independently. This is particularly relevant for users with limited hand function, upper limb weakness, or conditions that affect grip and dexterity, such as MND, MS, Muscular Dystrophy or Cerebral Palsy. With the electric upgrade, the user can reposition themselves throughout the day via a handset or control panel, maintaining comfort and pressure management without requiring carer assistance for every adjustment. This can meaningfully support the user’s independence and reduce the frequency of manual interventions from carers. The electric upgrade is specified and fitted as part of your individual seating consultation.
Yes. The Tri-Chair Three has been specifically designed to work with most standard hoisting and stand aid equipment, enabling safe and supported transfers into and out of the chair without the chair itself creating a barrier to the transfer process. This is a distinct feature of the Tri-Chair Three that is not shared by all specialist seating products. For users who require regular hoisted transfers — whether for personal care, moving between rooms, or clinical management — this compatibility means that the chair can remain in situ as part of a broader moving and handling plan, rather than needing to be swapped out or worked around. If you are working with a moving and handling coordinator or Occupational Therapist, our seating consultants are experienced in collaborating on assessments that take the full transfer environment into account.
The split-wing headrest on the Tri-Chair Three is a two-part adjustable headrest that can be independently configured to support the head and neck in a range of positions. Unlike a single-piece headrest, the split-wing design allows each wing to be angled inward or outward to cradle the sides of the head, preventing it from falling to one side - a common challenge for users with reduced neck muscle control or tone. The overall headrest height is also adjustable, meaning it can be positioned correctly for each individual’s seated body profile. For users whose condition affects head and neck control, including those with MND, MS, Cerebral Palsy, or Acquired Brain Injury — accurate head support is not just a comfort consideration; it directly affects airway management, swallowing, vision and fatigue, making this feature clinically significant rather than incidental.
The Tri-Chair Three builds on the Tri-Chair Two’s feature set in several clinically significant ways. Most notably, it adds an adjustable split-wing headrest, which provides configurable head and neck support and extends the chair’s postural management to the full body, not just the lower trunk and back. It has also been specifically designed for compatibility with most hoisting and stand aid equipment, making it suitable for users who require assisted transfers, including those who are fully non-ambulant. Additionally, the Tri-Chair Three is compatible with an electric upgrade, which adds motorised adjustment capability for users who cannot operate manual controls independently. The Tri-Chair Two is suited to users with complex needs who do not require head support or hoist compatibility; the Tri-Chair Three is the appropriate choice where those additional elements are required.
The Tri-Chair Three is designed for users with highly complex, evolving or progressive postural, pressure care and mobility needs particularly those for whom a standard specialist chair may no longer be sufficient as their condition changes over time. It is most commonly recommended for users managing conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis, Motor Neurone Disease, Muscular Dystrophy, Cerebral Palsy, Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, Acquired Brain Injury, Parkinson’s Disease, Spina Bifida, Scoliosis, Kyphosis, Contractures and Fibromyalgia, as well as those recovering from or living with the long-term effects of stroke. The chair is equally suited to users who require regular hoisted transfers, full-body postural management including head and neck support, or whose seating needs are anticipated to evolve over the coming months or years. If you are unsure whether the Tri-Chair Three is the appropriate level of specification, our seating consultants, who work closely with Occupational Therapists, can help you assess the right fit.
